The C. David Evans Scholarship started in 2012, following a desire to help educate those students who lost a parent to cancer. The scholarship provides financial support.
C. David Evans, better known as David, was a huge advocate of education and empowering others to be more than they thought they could be. It was this vision that led his wife, Celeste, to ponder having a scholarship in his name. But what should she do? How can she it get started? Who would benefit?
HOW THE SCHOLARSHIP BEGAN
Since 2006, the Oncology Nurses at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, lead by Avril Kelado, decided that they wanted to have a Christmas party for all of the children who had lost love ones to cancer at Saint Peter’s. Out of this wonderful, generous, love gift, came a party held every year where many people and organizations come together in December to make the holiday season brighter. Every child gets blessed by donated gifts and gets to share memories about their Mom or Dad who is no longer with us.
Celeste was so moved by the Nurses’ sacrifices, that she felt that it was time to make the scholarship a reality. She gave Saint Peter’s a seed; and with that, she and her daughter Carla were able to kick off the 1st C. David Evans Scholarship in December 2012.
To date, the C. David Evans Scholarship has awarded 19 scholarships.
